Audiology Staff
Alan Desmond, Au.D., CCC-A
Doctor of Audiology/Director
Dr. Desmond is the founder of the clinic, and has been on staff since 1983. He is a nationally recognized expert in the diagnosis and treatment of dizziness and balance disorders. He is the author of numerous publications related to the field of audiology, dizziness, balance disorders and vestibular rehabilitation. His booklet “Balance Disorders: A Short Course for the Primary Care Physician” is in its’ third printing and has been widely distributed throughout North America. His first full length text book, “Vestibular Function: Evaluation and Treatment”, was released in May of 2004. It has been a bestseller for Thieme Medical Publishers since it’s release, and has become required reading in many Audiology Doctoral training programs. Paul Kuster, Au.D., CCC-A
Doctor of Audiology
Dr.Kuster received his Master’s degree in Audiology from California State University, Sacramento, and his Doctor of Audiology Degree from the University of Florida. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology. He is certified in Audiology by the American Speech and Hearing Association. He has served the hearing healthcare needs of the Beckley area for 10 years before joining Blue Ridge Hearing and Balance Clinic.
Sharon Jividen, M.S., CCC-A
Audiologist
Mrs. Jividen holds a Master’s Degree in Audiology from Radford University, and is certified by the American Speech and Hearing Association. Mrs. Jividen has over 20 years experience, working in clinics in Beckley, WV and Abingdon, VA.
Donna Shay, M.S., CCC-SLP
Speech/Language Pathologist
Ms. Shay has been on our staff since 1985. She holds a Masters Degree in Speech Pathology from West Virginia University, and is certified by the American Speech and Hearing Association.
Shanna Thompson, M.Ed., CCC-A
Audiologist
Mrs. Thompson has been on staff since 1998. She holds a Masters Degree in Audiology from James Madison University and is certified by the American Speech and Hearing Association. Mrs. Thompson has provided Audiology services in Uganda, Africa, and has taught audiology graduate students in Chengdu,China. Ms. Thompson is currently working toward her doctorate in Audiology from Central Michigan University.
Tara Minnix, B.S., BC-H.I.S.
Hearing Aid Specialist
Ms. Minnix has been on staff since 1997. She is a state licensed and Board Certified Hearing Instrument Specialist.Tara is currently working on her Doctorate in Audiology at Lamar University, and is completing her clinical externship here at BRHBC.
Holly Meadows, BC-H.I.S.
Hearing Aid Specialist
Ms. Meadows has been on staff since 2000. She is a state licensed and Board Certified Hearing Instrument Specialist.
Donna Johnson
Vestibular Technician
Ms. Johnson has been on staff since 1998 and is a vestibular technician. She has extensive experience in assisting in diagnostic procedures and therapy procedures for patients with dizziness.
